Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo is one of the most vibrant, dynamic and modern cities to be found anywhere in the world. It has an enviable vigour and prides itself on being at the very cutting edge of technological innovation.

With a city population of 8.3 million and a larger metropolitan area which is home to some 37.2 million people, Tokyo is huge and offers visitors an almost endless array of sights and activities.

The city itself is divided into 23 wards called “ku” and these form the centre of Tokyo making up roughly one third of its total metropolitan area.

For the intrepid traveller central Tokyo is the place to be.  Its bright lights, constant movement, cacophony of bewildering noises and smells make the city centre feel like a five course meal for the senses.

While in central Tokyo be sure to check out the Imperial Palace, the formal residence of Japan’s Emperor and his family. The Palace is situated close to Tokyo station and permits visitors to walk through its grounds as well as its impressive gardens.
